Ingredients
The following four ingredients come together to make the best smores dip recipe:
- Marshmallows. This recipe uses mini marshmallows because they melt better and heat up more evenly. If you want to use bigger marshmallows, just keep a close eye on them while they cook to make sure they cook evenly and don’t burn.
- Chocolate chips. Any type of chocolate chip can be used, including dark chocolate, semi-sweet, or milk chocolate chips. It is your preference which ones you choose to use.
- Coconut oil. An essential ingredient used to help melt the chocolate and prevent the chocolate from burning in the ramekin.
- Graham crackers for dipping. These make amazing dippers for the dip, but you can use any type of cookies such as these small batch chocolate chip cookies or use fruit such as these air fryer strawberries or air fryer apples for dipping.

Instructions
First, preheat the oven or air fryer. Then, gather the four simple ingredients to assemble the s’mores dip and cook it.
Place chocolate chips in a ramekin.
Gently stir in coconut oil.
Transfer the ramekin onto the air fryer or oven. Melt chocolate chips for 5 minutes.
Remove the ramekin after 5 minutes and gently stir the melted chocolate. Then top with marshmallows.
Return the ramekin into the air fryer or oven for another 5 minutes.
Remove the ramekin once marshmallows are toasted and golden brown to your liking.
Serve the dip with graham crackers. Serve with more chocolates and chocolate chip cookies on the side during Valentine’s Day and weekend snacking.
Hint: The ramekin will be quite hot when finished cooking. Use a double silicone mitt to remove from air fryer. Be careful when dipping cookies not to touch the hot ramekin.
Variations
- Add crushed graham crackers. Sprinkle crushed graham crackers on top or in between the chocolate and marshmallows for that added crunch.
- Add nuts. Sprinkle over top the marshmallows crushed up walnuts or pecans to add more crunch and sweetness to the dip.
- Add sauces. Drizzle chocolate or caramel sauce on top of marshmallows to add an even sweeter taste to the dip.
- Change the baking dish. A mini cast iron skillet is perfect for using in the air fryer for dips.
- Types of chocolate. Any type of chocolate will work for this recipe. Dark, semi-sweet or milk chocolate will render a fantastic chocolate experience. You can even use Hershey's milk chocolate bars.
- To make vegan or dairy free. Use dairy free marshmallows and dairy free chocolates.
- To make gluten-free. Try using this gluten-free healthy breakfast cookie instead of graham crackers. Also, most big brand chocolate chips and marshmallows are gluten free but check your labels to verify.
You can also use a toaster oven or a regular-sized oven if you don't have an air fryer. Just lower the temperature to 350°F and adjust the time as needed.
Tips
Top tip: Don’t overheat the chocolate. They can burn easily to the ramekin so make sure you don’t leave them too long. About 5 minutes is all they need for melting in this type of air fryer.
- Not all air fryers cook the same way. This air fryer recipe uses an Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer Oven. It is best to keep watch during your initial tests after purchasing.
- Keep a close eye on the marshmallows. You want them golden brown and toasted but not burned.
- Don’t forget the coconut oil. It is essential to create smooth chocolate below the toasted marshmallows.
- Ramekin is extremely hot after cooking. To remove from air fryer, double up on the silicone mitts. Avoid touching the hot ramekin when dipping the graham crackers into the smores dip.
- Still have chocolate left? Stir in ½ to 1 tablespoon coconut oil if there is still chocolate in the bottom of the ramekin. Top with a new batch of marshmallows and toast until slightly golden brown in the air fryer.
Serving suggestions
There are many dippers to enjoy with the dip. Small batch chocolate chip cookies and healthy breakfast cookies make great dippers for air-fried s’mores dip. Fresh fruit like strawberries and apples also go well.
The dip can also be enjoyed after a backyard bbq or picnic where you might also enjoy shrimp skewers, chicken skewers or grilled bbq boneless chicken thighs. Wash it down with a glass of cherry limeade or iced sweet blackberry tea.
Storage
The dip is best served immediately after making but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2-3 days in the refrigerator. It can then be reheated in the air fryer or microwave to melt chocolate when you are ready to enjoy it again.
