Air fryers don’t all cook the same, so it is best to watch during the first time you make this recipe. You can also use either “Air Fry” or “Bake” functions if your model has a separate "bake" setting.

    • Versatile. With just three ingredients, you might not think you can adapt this recipe, but you can. These s’mores can be easily customized. You can choose the type of chocolate, graham cracker flavor, and marshmallow style. The variation section includes ideas for customization.

    Ingredients

With just 3 simple ingredients, you can make this fun bite-size dessert. You'll be able to enjoy it in no time.

Graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate bars on a white plate.

    Here's what you'll need:

    • Graham cracker squares - The base of our recipe that provides the crispiness and crunchiness that is so satisfying.
    • Milk chocolate bars - The classic milk chocolate bars are perfect for s’mores. We used Hershey’s in this recipe, and it was oh so delicious.
    • Marshmallows - Bigger marshmallows work the best providing that extra gooey texture that s’mores are known for. They also toast up so well in the air fryer.

Scroll down to the recipe card for quantities used.

    Instructions

It's time to start cooking once you have your graham crackers, chocolate bar, and marshmallows ready. Just preheat the air fryer and follow these simple step-by-step directions.

Four squares of graham crackers on an air fryer tray.

Place four graham crackers in a single layer on the air fryer basket or try providing space on each cracker.

Four chocolate bars over graham crackers on air fryer tray.

Cut each chocolate bar into half and place on top of the graham crackers.

Four s'mores are sitting on an air fryer tray

Top with 1 marshmallow at the center of each cracker-chocolate layer. Air Fry for 2 to 3 minutes or until chocolates are slightly melted. Marshmallows should be puffy and slightly golden.

Remove the basket or tray from the cooking chamber. Top one graham cracker on each marshmallow and slightly press. Enjoy immediately.

Hint: Keep an eye on the s'mores as they cook, as air fryers can vary in temperature. Adjust the cooking time accordingly to achieve the desired level of marshmallow and chocolate meltiness without overdoing it.

    Variations

    • Change up the chocolate. You don’t have to use only milk chocolate for this recipe. You can choose to use dark chocolate or semi-sweet. You could even use a white chocolate bar or spice it up by using a Reese’s peanut butter cup.
    • Change up the graham cracker. There are a variety of different graham cracker flavors out now. Cinnamon, honey and chocolate are a few different that you can use in this recipe if you wanted something different than the original.
    • Change up the marshmallows. Marshmallows come in a variety of flavors too now from caramel to fruity. You can customize your s’mores to your taste.Add-Ons. Nutella, peanut butter, caramel sauce or cookie butter spreads are all different things you can top your graham crackers with instead of the chocolate bar. For some of these, it might get a little messy so don’t forget your parchment paper in the air fryer if you decide to try.

Need a gluten-free option for the graham crackers? Try using healthy breakfast cookies instead. You can also make s'mores bites if you want to pack a treat to enjoy later.

    Tips

Top tip: Cook times vary depending on the air fryer you are using. I’d recommend checking on the s’mores at 2 minutes to see how they are doing. They are done when the tops are golden brown.

    • Use parchment paper. It will ease any cleaning duties. In this recipe, at 3 minutes the marshmallows start to expand and may slide to one side. The paper will help alleviate any mess that might occur.
    • Check for doneness. They are done when the top of the marshmallow is a nice golden brown and the chocolate is slightly melted but not dripping.
    • Melted chocolate. If you want the chocolate to be melted a little bit more, place the s’mores back in the air fryer for 15 seconds with the air fryer turned off. This will allow them to bake longer since the appliance will still be warm but not on.
    • Safety. Avoid touching the marshmallows, as they could be extremely hot right out of the air fryer. Let them cool for a minute or two before enjoying.

    Serving suggestions

You can enjoy this marshmallow treat anytime, but it makes a wonderful dessert at any BBQ or picnic. It goes well with other summer foods like shrimp skewers or grilled bbq boneless chicken thighs.

This cool Sonic copycat cherry limeade is the perfect drink to go along with the warm treat. Or, try them with an iced blackberry tea.

    Storage

Air fryer s’mores are best enjoyed right after you make them. If you have some leftovers, then place them in an airtight container on the countertop and consume them within a day.

    Notes

This Air Fryer recipe uses an Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer Oven. Not all Air Fryers cook the same way. It’s best to keep watch during your initial tests after purchasing.
For this Air Fryer S’mores recipe, you can use either of the two functions of the Air Fryer Oven - “Air Fry” or “Bake.”
    TIPS:
3 minutes in the Air Fryer would expand the marshmallows. They would turn slightly golden but the marshmallows may slide on one side. If you prefer golden brown marshmallows, place parchment paper on the Air Fryer tray before adding the ingredients. Parchment paper will ease your cleaning duties.
Avoid touching the marshmallows as they could be extremely hot right out of the Air Fryer.
