These spicy sensations are a favorite snack option. Stuffed with a creamy cheese mixture and a crispy topping, these bites offer a flavor that will leave you craving more.
Reasons to Love
- Healthier alternative. Air frying makes these a better choice than deep-fried ones. The circulating hot air achieve a crispy exterior without excessive oil.
- Faster cooking time. Cooking in an air fryer is quicker than baking in an oven, so you'll enjoy your spicy treats in no time.
Ingredients
Fresh jalapeno peppers provide a mild heat balanced by the creamy and smooth texture of the cream cheese filling. Crispy bacon adds a smoky and savory element that takes these poppers to new heights.

Instructions
Once you've gathered the ingredients for this poppers recipe, it's time to preheat your air fryer and prepare the peppers.
Combine the cheddar cheese, garlic powder, parsley, salt (if using), ground black pepper, cooked bacon, and cream cheese in a medium bowl.
Slice the jalapeño peppers in half lengthwise and remove the seeds.
Arrange the prepared peppers onto the air fryer basket or tray. Lightly brush each jalapeño half with oil.
Fill each hollowed out jalapeño with the cream cheese filling.
Top the filled jalapeños with breadcrumbs. Spray on oil if needed.
Air fry until breadcrumbs are crisp and golden in color.
Hint: If you want to add an extra kick of spice, consider saving some of the jalapeño seeds and adding them back into filling during assembly. This way, you can customize the recipe to be mild or fiery hot.
Variations
Want to customize the recipe to suit your own preferences? Here are a few ideas you can try:
- Bacon-wrapped: Wrap each jalapeño in a strip of bacon and secure it with a toothpick before air frying.
- Add seafood: Take your poppers to the next level by adding lump crab meat to the stuffing mix.
- Wrapping options: Don't limit yourself to bacon alone. Try wrapping your poppers in prosciutto or puff pastry for a unique twist.
- Bake: The poppers can be baked at 400°F for about 10 minutes if you don't have access to an air fryer.
To add a little extra crunch, crush some baked tortilla strips and sprinkle them on top. They are easily made with either homemade or store-bought tortillas.
Tips
Top tip: The spiciness of the jalapeño poppers is reduced by removing all the seeds and membranes from the peppers.
- Use a small spoon or knife to remove the seeds and membranes from the inside of each pepper.
- Arrange the peppers in a single layer with space in between to ensure even cooking.
- Keep an eye on the poppers during the last few minutes of air frying. The topping can burn quickly as it heats up.
- Allow your jalapeño poppers to cool slightly before serving to prevent any accidental burns.
- The peppers can be prepared ahead of time with the filling and breadcrumb topping. Place them in an airtight container and refrigerate until you're ready to cook them.
- If you want to prepare a larger batch, you can freeze them for later. Place the uncooked poppers in an airtight container or freezer bag, ensuring they are well-sealed. They will stay fresh for up to 3 months. It's best to thaw them in the refrigerator overnight before cooking.
Serving suggestions
These spicy and cheesy treats can be enjoyed as a tasty appetizer. You can also incorporate them into various dishes to add an extra kick.
For a more traditional approach, serve them with a cooling ranch or blue cheese dressing. The creamy and tangy flavors will complement the heat of the peppers perfectly, providing a delicious contrast.
If you're feeling adventurous, why not try using air fryer jalapeño poppers as an unexpected topping for burgers or sandwiches? Combining juicy meat or crisp bread with the spicy filling will create a flavor explosion that's sure to impress.
They are perfect for adding to Mexican-style dishes too. Try chopping up some leftover poppers and sprinkling them over loaded nachos before baking or air frying.
If you enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, you can add them to breakfast dishes. Top mini frittatas with diced poppers for an extra zing in the morning, or stuff them into a breakfast burrito for a satisfyingly spicy start to your day.
Storage
Place the poppers in an airtight container or wrap them tightly with plastic wrap. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freezing can extend their shelf life up to 3 months.
To reheat, bake at 350°F or air fry at 375°F until heated. It will take about 10-15 minutes in the oven and about 5-7 minutes in an air fryer.

These are amazing and I have made them over a dozen times. I like to add some chopped green onion and about a sprinkle ( or more if you like) of Everything Bagel Mix. Delicious!!

These poppers were perfect for me. I love a bit of spice! Taking out the seeds definitely mellowed out the heat, and they were just the right level. The seasoning is just perfect. Thinking of adding them to my burger next time.
