Add the steel-cut oats, dried cranberries, brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and cinnamon.
Pour in the milk and water and stir everything together until well combined.
Cover and cook on LOW for 6 to 7 hours or on HIGH for about 3 hours, until the oats are
tender and creamy.
Stir before serving in bowls and garnish with sliced almonds if desired.
Notes
If the oatmeal is thicker than you like after cooking, stir in an extra splash of milk until it reaches your preferred consistency.You can swap cranberries for raisins, add a pinch of nutmeg, or drizzle a little honey or maple syrup on top before serving.If you want to use frozen diced apples instead of fresh, that also works. Add them straight from frozen with no need to thaw, just expect the cooking time to be around 30 minutes longer.
