Notes
I used 1.744 kg / 61.518 oz fresh whole round watermelon and cut into 12 slices, 1 inch thick per slice.
I also kitchen-tested this recipe using an elongated 1.5 kg / 52.911 oz fresh whole watermelon, resulting in 16 slices, each with 1 inch thick. This watermelon was longer, though a bit slimmer, produced more slices.
Thoroughly wash and dry the watermelon before slicing.
Use a sharp knife for slicing watermelon, I used a chef’s knife.
1 inch or more is an ideal thickness for a slice when grilling watermelon.
Don’t forget to dry the watermelon slices before grilling. This will ensure for better grill marks and prevent the watermelon from steaming as it releases its natural juices.
Do not overcook watermelon; it will turn mushy and unappealing.
Serve the watermelon immediately after grilling, or it will become mushy.
This small 1.744 kg / 61.518 oz fresh whole round watermelon made 12 slices and can make 2 servings for heavy eaters, 3 servings for average eaters, and 4 servings for light eaters.
