    • Flour
    • Baking powder
    • Salt
    • Egg
    • Sugar
    • Milk
    • Butter

The waffle is done when the steaming has slowed or stopped, about 3 minutes later.

That's all there is to making a light and fluffy single serve waffle!

    Variations

Waffles are a delicious and easy breakfast option, but sometimes you want to mix things up. Here are a few ways you can modify the basic waffle recipe:

    • Use whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour for a healthier option.
    • Add chocolate chips or fresh berries to the batter for a fun twist.
    • Substitute protein powder for ¼th of the flour for a more filling meal.

    Tips

    • Use a non-stick waffle iron and spray. This will prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
    • Preheat your waffle iron before adding the batter to ensure evenly cooked waffles.
    • Be careful not to overfill your waffle iron, or else your waffles can be too thick. You can also get a lot of batter spilling over.
    • Toast for crispy waffles. For a crispier outside, cook in the iron for only a minute or two before it browns. Then finish it in the toaster oven.

    Serving suggestions

There are many ways to serve a waffle. The most common way is with syrup, butter, and powdered sugar. You can also add fresh fruit, preserves, or honey.

For a savory option, try topping your waffle with sausage, eggs, and cheese. We like to bake sausage in the toaster oven.

Waffles are a great base for dessert. Try them with whipped cream and fresh berries or chocolate chips sprinkled on top.

If you're feeling adventurous, experiment with different sauces or spreads.

    Storage

The recipe does make a large size waffle so you may want to eat half now and save the other half for later.

To store a leftover waffle, first wrap it in plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Then, place the wrapped waffle in a resealable bag or container. Be sure to label the bag or container with the date so you know when the waffle was made.

Waffles can be stored in the refrigerator for up to four days or in the freezer for up to three months. When you're ready to eat your leftover waffle, simply reheat it in the toaster or microwave.

    FAQ

How long can you freeze waffles?

You can freeze waffles for up to three months. But it's better to make a fresh single serve waffle since it only takes about ten minutes.

Can I make a single serv waffle from a mix?

Yes, you can waffle for one from a mix. You'll just need to scale the recipe down for only a single serving.

How do I tell if a waffle is done?

There are a few ways to tell if a waffle is done. The first is to see if the steaming has slowed down or stopped.

Next, look at the color of the waffle. If it's golden brown, it's probably ready to eat.

Another way to tell is to lift the waffle iron and see if the waffle comes off easily. If it sticks, it needs a little longer.

This actually worked really well for me as my son is often the only one who’s going to eat waffles in the house, and this enabled me to make him his own portion without having to start up a huge batch

Why is there so much sodium in this waffle recipe when the recipe only calls for 1/8 tsp. of salt? Is this possibly an error?

Good catch! The calculator was pulling the wrong ingredient in. It's less than half of what it was now.

These recipes sound tantalizingly great. The only problem I can find is there are not specific amounts listed for the ingredients. Please advize.

Unsweetened almond milk can be used but it's a little thinner than milk so you may want to use less. You can use baking soda and an acid like vinegar in place of baking powder. You can also find other alternatives here.
